Season Report 2014-15

‘Words from the Gaffers’

It’s been another great year for Borough Alliance!

We have welcomed even more children this season, had more teams entering the leagues than ever, and we have been delighted to have more parents to help with the coaching.

We hope to see more children and helpers! Please spread the BAFC word to other children and lend a hand if you can, especially with next year’s new recruits.

Ages 4-6 years

Parents John and Tom joined the coaching team. Next season will see a new team, the Wildcats managed by John Lawrence, getting their head-in-the-game in the 5-a-side league.

Under 8 Foxes

The Foxes enjoyed their first season of league football, and Nick passed his Level 1 FA Coaching Badge. Thanks to Andy and Matt from the U14 Pumas for helping with the coaching, alongside parents Chris, Nick and Simon.

This is our first season so we were a bit green at the start and were on the end of a few one sided scores (not in our favour!!). However, as the season progressed the lads have found their feet a bit and although we still lose more than we win, we have won a few. We’ve played a couple of tournaments towards the end of the season which although we again lose more than we won, a couple of the victories were convincing and the losses were close games.

So the lads are improving and playing more as a team. A team that we lost to quite heavily towards the start of the season only beat us 2–0. We also had a very convincing 4-0 victory over a side in the end-of-season tournament along with a narrow 3-2 defeat to Harborough Town – another team that beat us quite convincingly in the very first tournament of the season.

Under 9

Were joined by Ben from the U14 Tigers and parent Nick to help coach with Mark. The Eagles continued with their third season of league football, with enough players to form a second team at a recent tournament. A special thanks to parents Dave and Phil for managing this new team.

Under 10

Entered two teams: Hawks and the newly formed Ravens. Steve passed his Level 1 FA Coaching Badge. Thanks to Tom and Joe from the U14 Pumas who helped parents Trev, Steve and Gerry.

The Hawks and Ravens played their last set of 7-a-side Mutual League matches.  In an experimental season the squads also tried out futsal, special FA Coaching sessions and their first 9-a-side games. The teams have really developed well as can be seen in our Saturday training.

We are fortunate to have a good number of players at this age group and hope to add a few more over the next few weeks as we look forward to more intensive football in the Leicestershire Foxes League.

Trevor Arthur, Hawks Manager

Under 11

Under the continued management of Guy, Martin and Pete the Falcons moved up to 9-a-side football, with offside to contend with amongst other things!

The Falcons have had a fantastic season which started in style with a win in the Cup to progress to the second round for the first time in their history. With an ability to score at will, the Falcons soon found their stride which culminated in a thirteen match unbeaten run securing third spot in the Foxes Sunday League.

The team have continued to enjoy their football and always play with a positive attitude regardless of the result. We have welcomed two new starts to the team, Jamie Davis with his lightning pace and Taine Linley with great ball control. The team can be very proud of their season and we look forward to the next.

The Wolves continued their second season of 9-a-side with current manager Kingsley Baxter and the support of coaches Dave Oakley and Dave Aldridge. Dave Oakley passed his Level 1 Coaching Badge and is due to take over the management of the team next season as they move to 11-a-side.

After promotion last season, with some exciting games showcasing great team spirit, Wolves finished seventh in league 7. Highlights include a brilliant last minute goal to beat Leicester Nirvana 4-3, 5-0 win against Melton Foxes, and coming back from 2-0 down at half time to draw with Carib Windrush and league winners Oadby Owls.

In their fifth season, the Pumas made good progress with some strong performances to finish forth in the league, narrowly missing promotion by two points.

The boys have played some really entertaining football this season, and have scored some cracking goals. I have been congratulated by opposition managers on their solid team performance. We have signed two new players who have fitted in well to the established team, and ended the season on a five match win.

Challenges for next season include a move to full size pitches and strong opposition in the league. Parental help will be required for home game pitch set-up as coaches are required for pre- and post-match sessions.

Grant Bailey, Pumas Manager

After promotion last season, the Tigers had a challenging year facing strong opposition.

Whilst we put in some good performances we were unfortunate with a string of injuries.

At the end of this season I am stepping down as coach, after three years at the helm, to enjoy watching from the side lines as a supportive Dad. Maurizio Gobbato will be the managing the team bringing on board new players as others move on.

Digger Woodward, Tigers Manager

Under 16

The Lions had a great season, finishing third in division 3 with Garry who has been running the team for the last seven years.

I am very proud to be the manager of a great bunch of lads, and we wouldn’t have achieved such a good position without the help of Coach Simon Watts. Next year will be my last year managing a junior football team as we move to U17, and we are going to work hard to win another title next season!

Good Luck to everyone at Borough Alliance.

Garry Flewitt, Lions Manager
